Symposium
I. RAPPAS is an organization which presents a venue that allows amateur pianists to perform what is generally termed as classical piano music in a formal recital format devoid of interruptions, noise, conversations, etc.
II. The membership is open to any serious amateur pianists who want to share their music and experiences with others of like mind. Any new members may play on their initial visit if they wish to do so, but only after the other members have finished with their play. Finally, anyone who joins is obligated to play at least twice a year.
III. Meetings start at 7:00 and playing starts at 7:15. Playing is terminated at 8:30. Maximum playtime for any member is 15 minutes. Any food that may be served shall be served after the playing is concluded. Meetings shall conclude at 9:15 on Thursday events. The final meeting of the year shall be open to the public and will be held in a local recital hall. A member certainly should consider playing a previously played piece for their end of year recital piece.
IV. The members shall play in an order dictated by a list called the play list. The play list is drawn up in random order by computer for every new meeting. If play time is terminated before everyone plays that wished to do so, then those remaining members will be on top of the next play list for the following meeting
V. Members shall take turns in hosting the meetings either at their homes or at any place that has an adequate grand piano and adequate space. Meetings shall be held on Thursday or Friday nights as selected by the host. Traditionally, the host will be the first to play and can deviate from playing the standard classical fare if desired.
VI. Any members who plan to attend shall let the host know at least 4 days in advance. Members must limit their invited guests to one person per member. If a symposium is held in a small hall, then members may bring more than one guest with permission from the host. It is suggested that if more than one guest is brought, then one might consider bringing some food or drink to help the host. At the end of year recital, any number of guests may be invited.
VII. Membership shall be capped at fifteen members. If more than fifteen people want to join, then they shall be entered on a waiting list and a new group shall be formed when at least six people are on that list. The groups, called sections, shall meet on successive weeks. Any new members shall be added to the section with the least amount of members. Once assigned to a section, a member must stay in that section unless that member can find another member in another section that is willing to make a one to one switch. For the end of year recital, all sections will be combined for that recital.
